The AiR Prevention Collective

Motor insurers hold one lever that reduces loss cost without touching price, cover or acquisition spend: stopping the incident. Verified tyre intelligence is the first prevention programme that can be measured to a single stamped reading, and it arrives with zero capital asked of the insurer. Five founding seats, one livery each.

The shortlist

Five insurers, five reasons

Each page is access controlled and issued to that insurer's own team.

Why a collective

Prevention is pre-competitive

Structure

Five founding partners, one standard

AiR is proposing a collective of up to five founding motor insurance partners. Each holds a founding seat, an exclusive livery, a reserved share of edge inference capacity, and a voice on the standard itself. No insurer is asked to fund a competitor's advantage.

Rationale

Prevention is pre-competitive, pricing is not

Reducing tyre-related incidents on UK roads is a shared interest. What each partner does with its own verified data, its own rating factor and its own campaign remains entirely its own. The collective sets the measurement standard, not the price.

Capital

Sponsorship, not procurement

A founding seat can be taken as sponsorship of the collective, as an equity participation, or as a zero-capital pilot with a revenue share. All three routes are open and none of them requires a purchase order to begin.

Exclusivity

First mover holds the category

The first UK motor insurer to put verified tyre intelligence into its book owns the prevention narrative for the cycle. There is no second founding partner in the same brand position.

Governance

Independent measurement

Equipped versus matched control from day one, audited to a single reading, with the methodology published. Claimed effects are measured, not asserted, so a board can rely on the number.

Exit

No residual liability

A pilot ends with hardware removed by AiR at AiR's cost, data returned or deleted to instruction, and no continuing obligation either way.

The numbers

Modelled effect and operating fit

Modelled loss cost effect

Modelled tyre-attributable share of motor claims frequencyAbout 3 to 6 percent, taken from published incident causation research on tyre defect and under-inflation
Modelled reduction in that share, equipped cohort35 to 50 percent, from removing under-inflation as a contributing factor
Net modelled frequency movement across the book1.2 to 2.6 percent, applied only to the equipped cohort
Modelled loss cost saved per equipped policy per yearGBP 11 to GBP 24, before any severity or indemnity benefit
Modelled programme cost per equipped policy per yearZero to the insurer during pilot. AiR funds hardware, install, connectivity and support
Modelled recovery and warranty upliftGBP 3 to GBP 7 per equipped policy from evidenced tyre warranty and third-party recovery
Modelled retention effect1.4 to 2.2 points on customers who complete two or more verified checks a year
Measurement methodEquipped cohort against a matched control cohort from day one, audited to a single stamped reading

Operating fit

Capital asked at pilotZero. AiR funds hardware, tooling, certification, install, connectivity and support
Headcount askedOne named programme lead, roughly 90 minutes per week. No out of hours cover
Core system changeNone. Read-only ingest in, signed webhooks out, no write-back to the policy administration system
Regulatory postureOptional benefit, no change to cover wording, no advice given, Consumer Duty evidence produced
Data protectionUK processing, edge-first, personal data not required for the analytics set, DPIA support pack provided
Programme clock24 weeks manufacture, test, certification and independent audit, then a 12 week measured pilot. 36 weeks to a decision
Net revenue split40 percent AiR, 40 percent the insurance partner, 20 percent the fitting or host site
Decision at week 36Continue, scale or stop, from a board pack generated out of live measured data
Direct

Claims frequency avoided

Fewer tyre-attributable incidents in the equipped cohort, measured against a matched control.

GBP 11 to 24 per equipped policy per year, modelled

Direct

Indemnity and recovery

Verified maintenance evidence supports subrogated recovery, credit hire challenge and manufacturer warranty recovery.

GBP 3 to 7 per equipped policy per year, modelled

Direct

Retention

A used, physical benefit changes the renewal conversation from price to value.

1.4 to 2.2 retention points, modelled

Direct

Reserved inference capacity

UK-sovereign compute on installed hardware, priced below rented cloud inference for equivalent throughput.

Cost line replaced, not added

Indirect

A rating factor competitors cannot buy

Maintenance behaviour is orthogonal to driving behaviour and is not available from any data broker.

Structural pricing advantage

Indirect

Consumer Duty evidence

Measurable improvement in customer outcomes with a full audit trail, produced automatically.

Regulatory file strength

Indirect

Brand authority in prevention

The insurer that prevents rather than only pays. An annual national dataset published jointly earns coverage that media spend cannot buy.

Earned reach

Indirect

Carbon and ESG

Rolling resistance recovered converts to fuel and CO2e saved across the equipped cohort, exportable into sustainability reporting.

Reported tonnes CO2e

Indirect

Acquisition proof mechanic

A shareable Verified Care record travels with the customer, which turns a maintained vehicle into an argument for the insurer that verified it.

Quote conversion

Indirect

Road safety outcome

Fewer under-inflated vehicles on the road benefits every road user, including those the insurer never covers.
