Roughly one in four tyres in this simulated dataset needed a correction of more than 2 PSI, and one vehicle in four was materially low on at least one tyre. Repeat pressure loss at the same wheel across sessions is the strongest early indicator of a puncture or valve leak - the kind of signal only a connected, four-tyre check can produce.

Tyre condition is one of the few crash factors that is cheap to fix, measurable at scale, and currently unmonitored between MOT tests.
Crash involvement rises with pressure error
Pre-crash analysis of national crash data found vehicles running 25% or more below the recommended pressure were markedly over-represented in tyre-related crashes.2012
Regulators already quantified the benefit
The FMVSS 138 regulatory impact analysis put numbers on the casualty, tread-life and fuel benefits of maintained inflation before TPMS was mandated.2005

Tyre condition is the least instrumented variable in road safety
Casualty statistics record that a tyre was defective after a collision. Nothing records how the national fleet is doing today. A network of instrumented sessions turns that blind spot into a continuous, anonymous indicator.

Every session produces the same four measurements at the same point in a journey: what the tyre was, what it should have been, what it became, and whether it held. Aggregated, that is a national condition index updated hourly rather than annually.
